In the infamous words of Simon Pegg’s Shaun of the Dead, “Let's go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over.” We’ve compiled the ten best bars and pubs in London to drink through the zombie apocalypse.

10. Nightjar

Starting our list of the ten best places to relax during the end of the world is Nightjar in Shoreditch. Hidden down some unassuming stairs, it'll be tricky for zombies to find you while you're tucked away in your own little safe haven sipping on cocktails. The candlelit ambiance will almost certainly feel on purpose even after electricity in London fails as the world falls into turmoil.

9. The Ten Bells

We have a bit of a soft spot for The Ten Bells. In our immersive theatre production, Whitechapel: Suspects, Lunatics and a Leather Apron, we recreated this famous East London boozer in our show as a working pub. Full of stories and history, you can spend hours in The Ten Bells hearing all about it. And who knows how long the zombie apocalypse will last? A few hours, a few weeks, a few months... With plenty of cocktails, wines and beers to choose from, it's the perfect place to wait out the zombie apocalypse while it all blows over.

8. Roof East

Who doesn't love a rooftop bar in the summer? Well, Roof East might be better for more than just soaking up vitamin D. Sip on a beer and wave down any helicopters you may see. With 6 gaming lanes with shuffleboard and curling, you can even use the game pieces to spell out 'HELP'. Or simply pass the time with a bit of competition amongst your fellow cocktail-loving survivors.

7. Apples and Pears

If your favourite London-centric zombie film is more Cockneys Vs Zombies over Shaun of the Dead, then Apples and Pears is for you. With fun cocktails served in out-there drinking vessels and a wood fire pizza menu, the spot is either a fun party place to spend the zombie apocalypse or a great spot for your last meal. Wondering what to order off their extensive cocktail list? Try the Doctor's Orders! No guarantee that it will cure you if you're bitten, though...

6. WC Wine & Charcuterie Bar

Who says you can't enjoy a cheeky wine and cheese night when the world is ending? WC Wine & Charcuterie Bar in Clapham Common is in a renovated 100-year-old water closet. If zombies do manage to make it past your defence, at least you'll know the clean up will be nice and easy. More time to sample their wine list.

5. Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town

Hidden behind a Smeg fridge near Liverpool Street (yes, really!), Zeds would have a hard time even finding you at this boozy speakeasy. With a well-priced cocktail menu, the Mayor of Scaredy Cat is one of the best places to pass the time during a zombie apocalypse. What's more, if the dead happen to reanimate on the weekend, the Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town offers a bottomless brunch every Saturday & Sunday to take your worries away.

4. The Axe

With over 60 beers on offer at this cosy Stoke Newington pub, why not have a nice cold pint from the sanctuary of their beer garden? What's more, given the name, we're sure there has to be an axe or two hidden about if things turn more 28 Days Later than Shaun of the Dead.

3. First Aid Box

Serving cocktails in syringes and blood bags, First Aid Box in Herne Hill is the perfect place to kick back and relax when the end of times comes. In need of something to take your mind off the zombies outside? Their cocktails are the right medicine you need. Of course, if the undead do break through the doors, we're sure the surgical-style drinkware will come in handy.

2. Coach & Horses

A Soho icon, the Coach & Horses is the perfect place to relax in the middle of an undead uprising. Norman Balon, dubbed "London's rudest landlord", managed and owned this drinking spot for over 60 years. We're sure Norman wouldn't have put up with any zombie nonsense, keeping it a safe spot to drink away any end of the world worries.

1. The Winchester

Coming in at number one is obviously The Winchester. While Shaun of the Dead was filmed at the Duke of Albany in New Cross, the pub was unfortunately torn down and turned into flats in 2008. But The Winchester in Islington makes for a good replacement with cocktails and an enviable food menu. So have a nice cold pint and wait for it all to blow over.
