TOP TEN ZOMBIE MOVIES AS RATED BY OUR TEAM

May 28, 2019

Here at Trapped Escape Rooms, we know our zombies. We have Doctor Oxy from Trapped in a Room with a Zombie to thank for that. Between our team, we’re sure we’ve seen nearly every zombie film that has been released, which is why we’ve put together our team’s favourite undead flicks.

10. Black Sheep (2006)

We know what you’re thinking. Really, Black Sheep? That, or you’re thinking what is this film? If you haven’t enjoyed Black Sheep, you’re missing out on one of the best New Zealand films ever made. While not technically zombies, the titular sheep are a genetic experiment gone wrong. Close enough for us. Black Sheep makes for a fun black comedy that is unforgettable in a way we're not sure is good or bad.

9. Cockneys vs Zombies (2012)

Full disclosure, our team love London-centric films. Cockneys vs Zombies is definitely not the only London based zombie film you’ll find on this list. It’s Eastenders meets The Walking Dead meets The Hatton Garden Job. It also teaches you the best place to be during a zombie outbreak; robbing a bank!

8. Zombieland (2009)

It’s hard to believe that Zombieland is ten years old this year! This fun adventure through the zombie apocalypse never gets old. What’s more, a sequel is planned for 2019! Get your twinkies ready for a viewing.

7. Creepshow (1982)

Directed by George A. Romero and written by Stephen King, Creepshow brings together the two heavy hitters of horror. With five short stories (including one featuring Stephen King himself!), there’s something for everyone. This cult classic is a must-see.

6. Resident Evil (2012)

If you were starting to think from our list that zombie films have to be comedies for us to like them, Resident Evil is here to change that. Sometimes, you just want a film that is all action and Resident Evil has that in buckets. And with five sequels, there’s no shortage of zombie action in the Resident Evil series.

5. Cargo (2017)

Where do we start with Cargo? You won’t find much gore or jumpscares in this film, but what it does deliver, it delivers well. Cargo is a refreshing take on the genre, following a father’s journey through South Australia. This character-driven film is a real gem of recent zombie films.

4. Train to Busan (2016)

Catching the Tube after watching Train to Busan is an experience. As the name would suggest, the film follows a father and his young daughter when they're trapped on a zombie-infested train from Seoul to Busan. This film doesn't let up with its fast-paced storytelling and undead action.

3. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Shaun of the Dead, the movie that gave every Londoner a foolproof plan in the event of a zombie outbreak. Go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for it all to blow over.

2. 28 Days Later (2002)

We can't say we love London-centric films without mentioning 28 Days Later. Cillian Murphy on a deserted Westminster Bridge? We're not sure there's a more iconic shot from any modern zombie film. The rage virus in 28 Days Later gave us a new type of zombie and a terrifying movie.

1. Night of the Living Dead (1968)

No list of zombie films is complete without a mention to Night of the Living Dead and George A. Romero’s 1968 film takes our top spot. Not only did Night of the Living Dead redefine the word ‘zombie’, it changed horror films. For a movie that was made over half a century ago, the legacy of Night of the Living Dead lives on in today’s films, influencing moviemakers and still spawning sequels, remakes and even theatre productions.
